The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
